Sunday school

Sunday school at All Saints

The Sunday School at All Saints runs most Sunday morning’s during school term time. We have three classes available to our members – Nursery, Infants (reception, yr 1 & yr 2 aged children) and Juniors (yr 3 – yr 7 children) We also provide a room for children under the age of 3.

Lessons are planned and delivered, following the themes of the weekly readings in Church. Lessons usually include many activities such as stories, prayers, readings, crafts & games. We quite often include ‘circle news time’ with our younger children, whilst our older children start their lesson with a ‘mini’ service.

To celebrate special festivals, such as Harvest, Mothering Sunday and Trinity Sunday, we run a ‘whole Sunday School session’ where we bring all the children into the main hall together.  Tables and chairs are set out and each teacher looks after and helps a table. The morning starts off with teaching, which includes open discussion with the children, and a prayer, before finishing with a craft activity.

We have a regular singing session during the final 5 or 10 minutes of Sunday School. Songs are very easy to learn children’s worship songs, often sung to well know tunes. We end each session by singing ‘Thank You for the World So Sweet’ which we also sign in Makaton. This is followed by a very short prayer.

Safeguarding is a priority and our volunteers are DBS checked. (DBS checks are ongoing and each volunteer is asked to sign up to the update service once their DBS check has come through) When the children are taken down to the hall, shortly after the start of the 9.30am service, by the Sunday School team, the Sunday School teachers position themselves at various points on the route down to the hall ensuring the safety of all the children. Upon returning to the Church, the children are brought up class by class, with siblings being paired off together, and children being handed back to the parents at the Vestry door.

In keeping with Safeguarding recommendations, we now have a no late comers policy meaning that no children can be dropped straight to the hall door. All children are required to be in Church, with their families for the start of the service at 9.30am. We also lock the hall door from the outside. As the door is a fire door we are able to easily open the door from the inside.

Throughout the year, we run a Sunday School party which is a lovely, fun social afternoon. We hold a Good Friday Workshop, we celebrate Trinity Sunday by making Trinity Pizzas and we perform a Nativity presentation shortly before Christmas.

Our overall vision for Sunday School is to provide a welcoming, safe & friendly environment for our children, and their families, whilst sharing the Good News of Jesus through age appropriate teaching, activities & resources.
